The Centennial Cross Country team’s season has come to an end with a final race. The team traveled eight hours to Reno, NV for the State Championships race. The race took place on Saturday, Nov. 4. The top seven runners for the boy’s team ran and senior Breanna Blanks was the only member representing the girl’s team. Blanks stated, “The race was definitely harder than I expected, but I felt great and I was ready for it.”
The boy’s team took 4th overall with freshman Randin Patty as their number one runner who placed 11th overall with a time of 17:26. Senior Brenna Blanks took 9th overall in the women’s race with a time of 20:32. Coach Martinez said, “This was Randin Patty’s best race of the season.”
The head Cross Country coach, Christopher Martinez, stated, “Running in the state meet is different from any other race. And as for having such a young boys group, and for them to get fourth overall was a win.” According to Martinez, Breanna Blanks had the most impressive performance in the program, finishing 9th overall. He stated, “She ran smart and moved up in the race with each mile.”
A few of the boys on the team were recognized by Coach Martinez, “Randin Patty, Nick Kotero, Ivan Dubon, and Patrick Creel had phenomenal races this season”
The team had a great and successful season overall. Despite the fact that Seniors will not be returning, the team is looking forward to next year and the upcoming races.
