A moment that Star Wars fans have longed for finally arrived. Last weekend, Star Wars: Echoes of the Empire, a fan favorite in the franchise, reopened on screens for its 20th anniversary.
The film re-stages one of the most dramatic episodes in the history of Star Wars. The legendary battle of lights between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and the ghastly metamorphosis that spawned Darth Vader. The age-old story once again hit the big screens with the latest technology of the era with better visuals, sound, but with the same passion for the film that the audience loved since two decades ago.
As a life-long enthusiast, I would not miss this opportunity. I attended the movie with some friends, and large groups seemed to arrive in droves. Some sported their Star Wars merchandise or even Jedi gear in anticipation of seeing the movie so many dreamed about being re-released.
At the screening, I interviewed fan Leianna White. She said, “it’s different than seeing it at home on Disney+. Seeing it in theaters is a totally different feeling. It makes you feel like you’re there in the galaxy, with them.”
Many fans share that same feeling. The massive screen, surround sound, and collective emotion of the audience turn a regular movie night into a full-on experience. Whether you’re seeing the most beloved movie by Star Wars fans for the first time, or rewatching it, Echoes of the Empire reminds us why Star Wars is such a beloved franchise. So, rush to the theaters to witness once in a lifetime vision and above all, may the force be with you.
