On Friday, August 22nd, Centennial’s Varsity Football team played against Bishop Gorman for the first home game of the season. Last year, Centennial and Gorman both won state titles, leaving Gorman ranked No.3 in Nevada, and Centennial ranked No.11. For Centennial, securing the state title last season allowed them to be moved up to the 5A division.
Centennial started with the first play of the game, but the pass was incomplete. Unable to score, it was now Bishop Gorman's turn. Gorman scored the first 2 points of the game. As the game continued, this was the same concept every play. Centennial was unable to get past Gorman's defense. But Centennial was able to stop Gorman's offense. This was a hard game for Centennial, playing a nationally ranked top team like Gorman.
Before the game started, I met with Centennial head coach, Dj Campbell to ask about his thoughts before going into the game. “I feel like it's going to be a good experience,” said Coach Campbell. He went on to talk about how long it has been since he coached against Bishop Gorma and how a game like this would bring good exposure to see how they play against a well-trained team like Gorman.
Unfortunately, Centennial did not come out with the win. Gorman continued to score, and the final score for this game was 0-52 with Bishop Gorman winning. Centennial’s next home game is September 12th, against Arbor View. Better luck next time, Bulldogs!
