Arriving at this away game for the Centennial Bulldogs, you can tell both teams were eager to win. The Centennial Bulldogs won the last match they played against each other, 5-4, at a home game. At this away game, being the second time playing each other, the girls had a great warm-up.
In the first half, the Bulldogs performed well with possessing and getting forward with the ball. They had a mindset the whole game, and you can really see it when you’re watching, and they never let down.
The Bulldogs’ wingers do amazing every match, but in this game, they were very involved, creating many chances for our striker. They created many opportunities to score. Early in the first half, Junior, Alexandra Miranda, scored a free kick on the 18-yard box. Further into the game, Senior, Claire Orme, scored a top corner shot from a little past the half line! Our defense was holding the Gaels’ offense really well, stopping as much as they could. They blocked shots, intercepted passes, and did an outstanding job, and kept a solid line.
Even though our Bulldogs tried to pull through to win, they ended up losing 3-2. The girls worked very hard fighting for the win. I asked Junior, Madelyn Hartman, the keeper for the Centennial Bulldogs, about her insights on the game.
“Although we didn’t get the results we hoped for, the team worked very hard together and every girl gave their utmost effort.”
We’ll get them next time, Bulldogs!
