In their first matchup since 2021, the Centennial Bulldogs and Arbor View Aggies renewed their rivalry on September 12th. I asked Junior running back for Centennial, Kolten Silbernagel, what his thoughts were before the game
“I think the defense is going to be really good and the offense just needs to put points on the board.”
Unfortunately, this was not the case. The Aggies received the opening kickoff and scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive. This momentum continued onto the defensive end of the field, as the Bulldogs were forced to punt after a three-and-out. With an early fourth-down conversion, field goal, and five touchdowns scored on the first six offensive drives, everything was going Arbor View’s way offensively.
This was also the story of the game on the other side of the ball. Centennial’s offense was stalled and unable to put points on the scoreboard. After six offensive drives, the Bulldogs were empty-handed. They punted the ball four times, and the Aggies recovered two fumbles. Arbor View led 38-0 at halftime.
Late in the third quarter, however, Centennial was finally able to get some positive momentum. After an explosive pass from Senior, Ashton Hall, at midfield, the Bulldogs found their way to a prime scoring position and ultimately, the end zone. The extra point attempt, however, was blocked. In the end, Arbor View beat the Bulldogs 45-6. I spoke with Junior, Oliver Bergstrom, the quarterback for Centennial, after the game, and asked him about what he felt went wrong.
“Communication with the offensive line and me got us into bad situations. I also think we’re not playing as a team, we’re playing individually. I hope to get on the same page with my receivers, offensive line, and defense in the coming weeks, and that they will get better.”
Centennial’s next game is September 19, at Canyon Springs. Their next home game is October 10, against Palo Verde.
