Winter is coming, which means it's time to get hoodies and warm fuzzy socks out! On October 1st through October 31st, Student Council is hosting “Socktober Sock Drive” and it is meant to donate to help people in need who can not afford socks to be kept warm during winter time.
A sock drive donation is the act of giving new or gently used socks to organizations, such as homeless shelters or community centers, to help meet a basic need for those in poverty or experiencing homelessness. Socks are one of the most requested and least donated items at shelters, that is why Student Council is hosting this event. So everybody can be warm during the winter time.
Donations will start on October 1st through October 31st in Room 402, feel free to donate socks you don't use anymore, it will truly make a difference. Make sure the socks are in good condition!
I spoke with Mr. Hainesworth, a counselor at Centennial High School, asked him how he felt about the Student Council hosting this event.
He believes “it is an,amazing idea, since homeless people don’t have basic sources, some of them don’t even have good shoes, so a good pair of socks will help a lot.”He also believes that, “when we think about homeless people we just think about giving them money, or food or water, when that is also a very big need, sometimes they just need a pair of clothing for very strong weathers.”
This event is really going to help students and families at Centennial realize that a small donation can really change or help somebody”s life.
