On Thursday, September 29, Centennial took on Meadows for a sundown tennis match. Both girls and boys played against Meadows, and each Centennial team lost 13-1. “It was a tough match, but Meadows was very talented and defending state champions. Our boys and girls played very well, but they got cut short,” Head Coach Curtis Livreri stated after the tough game.
Even though the scoreboard didn’t reflect it, the Bulldogs really put up a good fight. A lot of the matches involved some intense rallies, where the Centennial players showed a lot of determination and hustle. It was clear to everyone watching that they weren’t just playing for fun; they were focused and ready to give it their all. For some of the players, this was one of their first times going against top-ranked teams, and it helped them see what they need to work on for the rest of the season.
A few players really shined during the match. On the boys’ side, one of the singles players scored Centennial’s only point by staying cool under pressure and making his opponent mess up. On the girls’ side, a doubles team nearly grabbed a second point, fighting hard to take their set into extra games before narrowly losing. Those moments showed just how much potential the team has, even when up against a tough rival like Meadows.
Despite the tough loss that was taken, the Centennial players left feeling motivated. Their coaches reminded them that every match is a chance to learn and improve, and taking on strong competition will only help them get better in the future. With more practices and games ahead, the Bulldogs are determined to bounce back and show that their hard work will pay off.
