On Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025 from 10am-3pm, Centennial High School is hosting a Blood Drive in the front of the school near the gym. The Blood Drive is an event for students and staff to donate blood, allowing it to be used in hospitals to save lives. Any student who is 17 and over who meets the height and weight requirements are encouraged to participate.
Blood donation is the voluntary act of giving blood to help others in need. It involves donating a portion of one’s blood to a blood bank or hospital, where it can be stored and used for transfusions or other medical purposes.
Sarena Halverson, a teacher at Centennial High School and the advisor of NHS stated, “As a teacher, I believe donating blood is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways we can model compassion and civic responsibility for our students. Every donation has the potential to save multiple lives, whether it’s helping accident victims, patients undergoing surgery, or those battling serious illnesses. When educators and students take part in blood drives, we demonstrate that individual actions can make a real difference in our community. Donating blood teaches empathy, reminds us of our shared humanity, and shows that even small acts of generosity can have life-changing impacts.”
Donating blood is really important because it saves lives. When you give blood, you’re providing red blood cells, platelets, and plasma that are super important for surgeries, helping trauma patients, or people with long-term illnesses like cancer or sickle cell disease. It’s a simple way to make a big difference for someone who really needs it.
