On Sunday, October 19th, 2025 around 9:30am, “The Louvre Museum” the world’s largest and most visited art museum, located in Paris, France, was robbed by 4 men in broad daylight.
The Louvre Museum is most famous for having iconic masterpieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Its fame also comes from its massive collection spanning thousands of years, its historic architecture as a former royal palace, and its modern glass pyramid entrance. Including historical pieces like the French crown jewels.
Some of the things stolen from the Louvre on this day were eight pieces of jewelry, primarily from the 19th century crown jewels collection, belonging to Empress Eugénie and Empress Marie Louise. The stolen items include tiaras, necklaces, and earrings, primarily made with diamonds, emeralds, and pearls, valued at approximately $102 million.
Found in a most recent New York Times article, “It seems like a scenario out of a film or a television series,” said Ariel Weil, the mayor of central Paris, where the Louvre is located.
