In response to the new Texas abortion law, women across the country began to organize protests to defend Roe vs Wade. One of the many organizations to come forward is the Women’s March Global.
Women’s March Global is a women-led organization that unites women to bring social change and that organizes protests for immigrant rights, women’s education, abortion rights, LGBTQ+ rights, workers’ rights, climate justice, disability rights, indigenous rights, civil rights, and more. Women’s March Global organizes in chapters across the country, one of these chapters being Women’s March Nevada.
According to womensmarchglobal.org, “Women’s March Nevada is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity, and respect.”
Women’s March Nevada organized a rally in Las Vegas for anyone to join and protest. The rally started at 3540 Saint Rose Parkway in Henerson at 2 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2021. About 300 women attended carrying signs in support of the movement. The attendees marched for about 0.3 miles, chanting and cheering along the way.
The Saint Rose Parkway protest was one of the 600 marches that occurred across the country. The main protest was organized in downtown Washington D.C. The rally began at 1:30 pm and was hosted by activist Cristela Alonzo. Both of these rallies required masks and encouraged social distancing. Thousands of people attended and marched in support. Other major protests occurred in San Francisco, Jackson, Mississippi, Chicago, and New York.
