Centennial High School’s Majorette Team is a dance group that’s mostly made up of African-American females. The origins of majorette dance can be traced back to Rhineland, Germany, where it was influenced by a variety of dance styles including jazz, hip-hop, and ballet. Despite only forming two years ago, the team has already gained a significant following due to their skill and captivating performances.
The majorette’s coach Delisha Johnson says “It is a joy to coach them and we always have a fun time”. Johnson states, “The majorettes team always kept high spirits even after the winter assembly when their music went out they were proud of how they kept going and didn’t freeze and freak out.” The majorettes are proud to bring something new to the school. The team says they are trying to open more cultural dances for the school to see and hope to encourage more people to join.
Coach Johnson gave a shout out to Team Captain Aniyah, for always having a positive attitude and never giving up on her team. She has never stopped encouraging them, giving them advice, and even just having a positive attitude.
This team practices Monday- Thursday. They perform at football games, basketball games, and all the assemblies Centennial High School has.
The Majorettes are doing an amazing job by showing appreciation to their coaches and school and bringing in a lot of positivity with their diverse cultures and perspectives.
